Men’s Group: “I Can’t Afford That”
When It Never Feels Like There’s Enough
A night on money, pressure, fear, guilt, and why it can feel like there is never enough.
Most men know what it is like to feel pressure around money. You finally get paid, and before you have even caught your breath, half of it is already spoken for. Rent or mortgage, food, fuel, power, insurance, kids, work costs, debt, tax, the car needing something, or another unexpected bill that seems to turn up at the worst possible time.
Sometimes when we say, “I can’t afford that,” it is simply true. The money is not there, or it would not be wise to spend it. That is real, and this night is not about pretending otherwise.
But sometimes those words carry more than the bank balance. Sometimes they carry fear, guilt, pressure, shame, or that familiar feeling that no matter what you do, there never seems to be enough.
Money can touch a lot more than just what is in the account. It can bring up safety, freedom, control, self-worth, responsibility, and the quiet pressure many men carry to provide, keep up, and not look like they are struggling.
This Men’s Group is not about budgeting, investing, financial advice, or telling anyone how to spend their money. It is not a wealth workshop, and it is not about pretending money problems are not real.
It is about slowing down and looking honestly at what money brings up in us.
We will look at questions like:
What happens inside me when money feels tight?
What do I feel when I hear myself say, “I can’t afford that”?
Where do I feel guilty spending money on myself?
What am I afraid might happen if I spend, invest, rest, or choose something for me?
Where does money make me feel safe, trapped, powerful, ashamed, or not enough?
What story have I been carrying around money that might not be the full truth?
And what might change if I understood what was really sitting underneath that pressure?
This is a grounded night for honest conversation, practical reflection, and understanding yourself better. There is no pressure to share. You are welcome to come along, listen, and take what lands.

About the Men’s Group
The Healing Barn Men’s Group is a relaxed and grounded space for men to have honest conversations about life, pressure, money, relationships, emotions, purpose, direction, and the things we often keep to ourselves.
It is not therapy, and there is no pressure to share. Each night has a topic, practical reflection, and space for conversation. You are welcome to come along, listen, and take what lands.
If you are unsure what the group is like, or what kinds of things might come up, you can read some of the past Men’s Group reflections. They give a better feel for the way the nights unfold, the kinds of conversations we have, and what men often notice when they have space to slow down and look at what is really going on underneath.
