Why some situations can set you off, shut you down or stay in your head long after they’re over.
Why Do I Keep Reacting Like This?
Most men know what it’s like to react in a way they didn’t really want to.
Someone says something and you snap. Your partner asks a question and you hear it as criticism. The kids do something small and suddenly you’re far more wound up than the moment probably needed. Something at work gets under your skin. Someone pushes back and you get defensive.
Or maybe you don’t blow up at all.
Maybe you go quiet, shut down, walk away, avoid the conversation, or replay it in your head for the next few hours.
Then afterwards you think:
“Why did I react like that?”
That’s what this Men’s Group is about.
Not becoming a man who never reacts. Not pretending nothing gets to you. Just slowing things down enough to get a better look at what happens in those moments — and why certain things seem to hit harder than they should.
Sometimes the reaction is not really just about what happened in that moment.
Sometimes it shows us where we feel under pressure, backed into a corner, judged, disrespected, unappreciated, or like we’ve got to defend ourselves.
This night is a chance to have an honest look at that.
As always, this is not therapy, and no one is going to make you share anything you don’t want to. You’re welcome to come along, listen, and take what’s useful.
A grounded night for honest conversation, practical reflection, and understanding yourself better.
About Speak Up Cambridge
Speak Up Cambridge is a relaxed men’s group held at The Healing Barn in Cambridge.
It is a space for honest conversation, practical reflection, and helping men understand themselves better. The group is not therapy, and there is no pressure to share. Some men talk, some men listen, and most nights there is a fair bit of humour mixed in as well.
Each night has a topic, but the conversation can go wherever it needs to go. You are welcome to come along, listen, and take what lands.
